Is HBO The Idol really canceled?
The reason why HBO canceled “The Idol”.
Sam Levinson’s creation “Euphoria” is critically acclaimed and also managed to win a lot of awards. However, it was not the case for the idol. The reputation of the show also got corrupted because of the production changes and delays. According to some sources, HBO originally ordered eight episodes of the show. But, when Amy Seimetz was removed from the project as Abel Tesfaye who plays Tedros on the show, he was not pleased and believed the show was focusing more on Lily’s character. The show was handed to Sam Levinson who completely changed the show. The show proved to be a bad stain on HBO’s reputation. It could be the reason why HBO decided to drop the last episode.
But, Variety revealed the reason why the show ended in the fifth episode. The Idol was released at the Cannes film festival this year and it was listed to have only five episodes. Even The Weeknd and the other creators related to the project revealed that the show is like a five-hour movie. The show was meant to have five episodes from the start.
Is there any possibility of a second season?
Da’Vine Joy Randolph who plays Jocelyn’s manager Destiny on the show revealed to Variety when asked about another season, “I think that everyone’s intention is to have a second season. This was never intended to be a limited series. HBO has been very happy with it.”
She also revealed that after the final episode, things are going to change and it will be like something people have not seen before.
“There will be a turning [of] the table, and I think a really exciting set-up entering into Season 2… It will be very interesting to see how people respond to this last episode and see how things turn. It’s going to show you something different that we haven’t seen in a while.”
As the rumors got intense, HBO took to Twitter to deny any cancelation allegations.
“It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”
