Rian Johnson is back with the Knives Out sequel on Netflix. The first Knives Out, released in 2019, was a shocking success. The first film managed to earn 311 million dollars at the box office making the film a box office hit. Also, the film received positive reviews from critics and audiences and received a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Glass Onion: A Knives out Mystery was released on December 23, 2022, on Netflix. The movie was initially released in theatres for a week and earned 15 million dollars in the opening week. After the success of the sequel, fans are excited to know more about the third installment of the movie. The sequel is doing good on the platform. Also, the film is trending in the Top 10 for weeks now.
According to Rian Johnson, the third film will be the last one in contract with Netflix. But, he expressed that he is not done with the knives out yet and he does not see it as a “trilogy”. He told RadioTimes in an interview;
“We have one more movie in our contract with Netflix, but I don’t see it as a trilogy. I see it as an ongoing thing. As long as Daniel and I are having fun and coming up with something new and exciting every time, we’ll keep doing this as long as we can.”
Knives Out 3 Release Date
There is 3 years gap between the first installment, which came out in 2019, and the second installment released in 2022. However, the delay was due to COVID-19 and Craig Daniel’s appearance in No time to die. But, the third installment might come out earlier. It’s hard to say when will Benoit Blanc return for another mystery as it all depends upon Rian Johnson and how quickly he comes up with the new mystery and characters. According to Rian Johnson, the development of Knives Out 3 is in its early stages.
What will happen in Knives out 3?
Rian Johnson himself does not know what lies ahead. In an interview with Comicbook.com, he revealed;
“I gotta figure out what the next Benoit Blanc mystery is, what it’s called, where it’s set. So, I got a lot of work to do,” he said. “So, TBD, I don’t wanna give myself a deadline yet ’cause I definitely won’t meet it.”
The second movie revealed Benot Blac’s possible partner Phillip, played by Hugh Grant. According to Craig himself, Benot Blac’s queerness is going to be a major thing for the third film.
Cast
It is hard to say anything about the cast members yet of Knives Out 3 Also, every movie has a new set of characters, so it is hard to say which actors will be included in the third film. Also, which means none of the actors from the second film will return including Edward Norton whose being appreciated for his role as Miles Bron. However, Craig will be back to play Benot Blac as he is the main character. Hugh Grant might return as Philip as Benot Blanc’s partner and we can expect to see more of him in the upcoming films.
