Netflix canceled Fate: The Winx Saga after just season second. Fans of the show have been devasted. Iginio Straffi the creator of the Winx Club franchise was surprised when Netflix decided to cancel the show. Straffi told Variety that he still has to hear what Netflix has to say and that he will be talking to Netflix to understand what happened.
However, Iginio Straffi is not done with the Winx Club yet. He also revealed his plan that he is working on a high-budget Winx Club movie with 100$ million dollars. He also told Variety that he has been approached by different mediums to create a cheaper version but he refused. Why did Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga was canceled?
Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga got average reviews from critics and the audience. The show was criticized for being darker and different from the original source material. Also, due to the release of Netflx’s Dahmer series, Fate’s viewership declined. But, according to Straffi, one of the reasons Netflix decided to pull the plug on the show was due money. As it would have taken more money to create the third season.
Is there going to be a live-action movie for Winx Club?
Straffi is definitely working on a movie. He announced that now that Netflix has decided to cancel the show after two seasons. He has the advantage to create more live-action products.
Release Date
There is no news about the release date for the movie. It is hard to say when will the movie be released as it is still in the early stages of development. The upcoming movie might release in early 2025.
Plot
According to Straffi, the film will follow the plot of the original Winx Club animated series. Also, he revealed that the movie will also have a darker tone similar to Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga. He told Variety
“[The film] will comprise not just the characters’ relationships in school – which are a big part of what the Netflix series revolves around – but the franchise’s more epic fantasy aspect: transformations, battles with witches, the Trix”.
He continued;
“The audience I’m seeking to tap into comprises those who, just like the audience for the Netflix series, are nostalgic for the original animation series 20 years ago, and also families who want to go to the movies with children aged 10 and up.
Straffi also compared the upcoming movie with the Harry Potter franchise. According to him, the Netflix series took inspiration from the original material but also created a mood that was a bit darker. He revealed that there will be darker shades in the movie but the DNA of the film will be closer to the animated series and we will get to see more epic battles between witches and fairies.
Cast
There is no news about the cast. For the fans of the original series, the casting is important as the Netflix series got a lot of criticism for the casting choice. It is too early to suspect which actors will appear in the upcoming high-budget Win Club movie.
