Like most Reverse 1999 challenges, you’ll need to think in reverse. Here’s how to solve it:

  1. Start at the End: Imagine 6 grapes already sitting at the cave entrance. How did they get there?
  2. One Trip Back: If the critter can only move 3 meters with grapes and has to eat 3 for fuel, it carried 6 grapes towards the cave for those last 3 meters.
  3. Another Load: Where did those 6 grapes come from? The critter must’ve dropped them off 3 meters back to go get another load from the grape pile.
  4. To the Start: To carry the initial 6 grapes towards the cave, you need to start with a full load from the grape pile and move 3 meters forward.

Instructions for the Critter

Now that you understand the logic, you need actions in the game:

  1. Load Up: Tell the critter to take 6 grapes from the pile.
  2. Short Hop Forward: Make the critter move 3 meters with the grapes.
  3. Drop Off: Have the critter leave those 6 grapes on the ground.
  4. Back for Seconds: Send the critter back to the grape pile.
  5. Repeat Steps 1 – 3: Get 6 more grapes, move forward, and drop them off with the other pile.
  6. Final Delivery: Now there are 12 grapes waiting just 3 meters from the cave. Have the critter pick up 6, and walk the final distance, munching 3 on the way. Victory!
