Netflix’s favorite historical drama Bridgerton is returning for season 3. Based on the book “The Viscount Who Loved Me” by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton has become the most-watched English language series on Netflix, with a whopping 950 million hours viewed in 2023. Netflix revealed that they have renewed the historical drama for seasons 3 and 4 revealing that the streamer plans to “be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.“
Bridgerton Season 3 Release Date
The filming of Bridgerton season 3 started in the summer of 2022 and wrapped in March 2023. season 3 was filmed before the writer’s strike. So, fans can rest assured that Bridgerton season 3 will be released this year and will not be affected by the ongoing strike. However, Netflix has not officially announced the release date. But, during the Tudum event this year in June, the trailer and pictures of the cast members were displayed. In a deleted post on X, the release date was December 14, 2023.
Still, Netflix has yet to release an official date for season 3.
Plot
Fans can expect their Lady Whistledown, Penelope, and Colin Bridgerton to get together in season 3. The official synopsis for season 3 reads;
From Shondaland and new showrunner, Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.
Also, when Colin returns from his summer travels he finds it sad to see Penelope his only friend giving him a cold shoulder. Colin decides to help Penelope to find a husband for her. But, soon things become complicated when he realizes that he wants to become more than friends.
Will Daphne’s absence from Season 3 affect the show?
Sadly, Phoebe Dynevor who played Daphne Bridgerton in the show will not be returning for season 3. The actress shocked the fans with the news of her departure from the show. The Bridgerton actress told ScreenRant that she will enjoy season 3 as a viewer.
“Sadly not in season three. Potentially in the future. But season three, I’m just excited to watch as a viewer,”
One of the reasons for her absence is her busy schedule. Dynevor was filming her new spy thriller movie “The Inheritance” with the director Neil Burger. That is why it was hard for the actress to make an appearance for season 3. Also, fans are worried that her absence will affect the show.
Daphne played an important role in Colin and Penelope’s love story in the books. In Romancing Mr. Bridgerton’s Chapter 16 Colin goes to Hastings House where Daphne and Simon live. He goes there to ask advice from his sister Daphne.
So, fans expected the same to happen in the show. But, now that Daphne is not present, it means some other character will take the responsibility to guide Colin Bridgerton to find true love.
